Top 10 Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Bourbon Social™ Tour

Updated: Aug 19

Touring bourbon distilleries can be a fun and memorable experience. All the sights and sounds of a working distillery, tasting different variations of bourbon, and making new friends is what it is all about!

Here are 10 tips to help make the most out of your Bourbon Social™:

  1. Arrive Early for Check-in: Arriving at least 15-20 minutes before your scheduled tour time allows for check-in, browsing our retail shop, and meeting the Pegasus staff.

  2. Always Have Your ID: Not only does Pegasus Tours need to validate your age and identification, but most distilleries will also ask to see it as well. So, make sure to have a government or state issued ID.

  3. Dress Comfortably and Appropriately: Bourbon tours involve a lot of walking, standing, and potentially navigating wet or uneven surfaces, so wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Consider layering your clothing to adapt to temperature changes within the facilities. You could easily find yourself in a rickhouse with cooler temperatures and then outside with famous Kentucky warm weather!

  4. Stay Hydrated and Eat Beforehand: Bourbon is a strong spirit, so it's important to drink plenty of water throughout the tour and eat a meal beforehand to minimize the effects of alcohol on an empty stomach. Water will be provided for you at no cost by us and several distilleries provide water as well but feel free to bring your own water as well.

  5. Ask Questions: Our Bourbon Hosts and distillery guides are knowledgeable and eager to share their expertise, so don't hesitate to ask questions about the bourbon-making process, the distillery's history, or anything else that sparks your curiosity.

  6. Engage Your Senses and Take Your Time Tasting: Pay attention to the bourbon's color, swirl it to release aromas, take small sips, and savor the flavors and the finish. Don't be afraid to experiment with adding a few drops of water to open up the flavors. No one is there to judge you!

  7. Be Attentive and Respectful: Listen to your Bourbon Host and distillery tour guide, follow instructions, and be mindful of your behavior and avoid disrupting the tour for others.

  8. Bring Cash: Most of the distillery guides and tasting staff accept tips as well as distillery drivers. You can also feel free to tip our Bourbon Hosts and drivers if you feel they have done an exceptional job!

  9. Be Social! Our group tours are a great way to meet people. It usually doesn’t take long for our guests to get to know each other and really enjoy spending the day together. It’s like creating your own “Bourbon Family” for the day!

  10. Document Your Journey and Share Your Experience: Take photos, jot down notes about your favorite bourbons.  Consider purchasing a bottle or two to enjoy at home and relive the experience. Share your experiences with others to spread the word about our bourbon tours and the distilleries and inspire them to embark on their own bourbon adventures!
